What am I?

A Planet, a moon, or something else?

Any takers?

Well, as long as we're guessing...

I'll go with moon. It's spherical, and without scale I'm guessing that it's on the small side based on the size of the craters in relation to the size of the object. It appears to have an atmosphere with cloud formations and maybe surface water.

Or it could be some odd medical imagery, again, scale is everything.

Without confirming or denying anything, I will say that you gave some good observations Blake. I will hold off on answering for now to give more people a chance to play.

I will post the answer on December 8th.

This was a trick question.

It is not a moon; I just made it look like one. The original image was morphed in several ways in a fifteen stage process. Each stage in the process took several steps before the next stage.

The original un-morphed photograph is a Mars THEMIS image titled "Pedestal Craters in Utopia", which are located on Mars.

Okay, it looks like you were the only one brave enough to take a guess Blake. I hereby declare you the winner of the contest… um, by default.

Win what you ask?

Well, the satisfaction of knowing you came closest to the right answer. Never mind it was by default.

Actually though, you did make very good observations Blake. I think there are not many people outside of NASA who would have recognized those as Martian craters… especially after I played with the image.

As I said, scale is everything. A lesson originally learned from watching Space 1999 and confirmed from years of reading satellite and SR-71 images.

So the colours are synthetic?
