Stargate SG-1 has had a good season, for the most part, but it just doesn’t feel like it has been as good as it could have been. For example, take this mid-season final; it was good, but not excellent. It was one of the better episodes this season, so far, but I still feel it could have been better. I did enjoy The Quest, Part 1, but I enjoyed the Stargate Atlantis mid-season final even more.

I am not quite sure what the problem is. I like the cast, and the writing has not been bad, even if not great, but the chemistry seems slightly off for some reason.

I do like the Cameron Mitchell character and feel he fits right in with SG-1.

Vala, on the other hand, may be the main problem for me. I do not hate Vala, and sometimes she does contribute well to the story, but other times she sticks out like a pink elephant in the living room… ya just know that elephant shouldn’t be pink, let alone in your living room. At the same time, I am getting used to her being there and would hate to have her leave just because I didn’t quite know what to make of her being there.

Perhaps the show’s chemistry will finally gel in the last half of the season. I do hope for a few episodes of excellence to wrap up the series with. I also hope the series final will leave room for a few TV movie adventures to follow for Stargate SG-1.

Perhaps if they hadn’t brought Vala in being so bold and boisterous, she would have started to fit in sooner.   Her character has always been kind of extreme and a little over the top at times.  It was like they were forcing her upon us.  I’m sure they wanted to give this character some substance but all the members of SG-1 have always been more subtle.  You can effectively do subtle without the need for “in your face”.

And don’t the writers have a habit of putting all their eggs in one basket.  Sure I realize they’re building a story and it finally all comes together just in time for the season break.  Unfortunately they’ve still learned nothing.  They’re working so hard at trying to grab the audience that they’ve forgotten we’re diehard fans who will watch regardless of how they present the story.  They don’t have to end every season (or mid-season) with a cliffhanger.  We’re going to watch, no matter how they ended the last episode.  And there is some cruelty in presenting new episodes for just under two months then making us wait almost four months for the continuation.

A lot of things were revealed in this episode and a number of characters were brought together.  Ba’al has learned some lessons with his exposure to SG-1.  Who ever thought they’d be on the same team?  And just how long will this relationship last?  Hopefully in the last half of season 10 they’ll do SG-1 justice.  Hopefully they’ll go out with a bang and leave room for a return of some sort.  I watch these last episodes with anticipation of what is to come and dismay at the end of this adventure....

I'm alittle late getting here... I missed the first showing and caught the second and was too tired to form an opinion. lol

I LIKED it.  Great team stuff. I still always go back to my opinion that the BEST episodes are when they are all together. .

It seems that too many times this season the writers do just enough to get by.  I know that they are professionals and all... and I REALLY don't mean to sound egotistcal but so often this season I felt like if they had just done one more thing... added an element, fact or twist that it could have been GREAT again.  They simply followed a plot and didn't take it that next step.

The one thing in this episode that I would have LOVED to see was each "task" requiring something specific from one of the members of SG1.   Each contributing something... true teamwork to get them through.  That would have just given it something "extra" for me. Each of the traits on the list equaling one of the team members.

Adding Ba'al in too was a GREAT plus and I was surprized t see Adria there alone without any guards.  I would have loved to see Daniel just push her off the cliff.  He was willing to shoot her a few episodes ago... this wouldn't have been TOO big of a strech.  I guess that would have been rather anti climactic, though.   hehehee

So HOW long do we have to wait now?  Any ideas for the off season?

I was pleased with this episode. Vala has definitely taken the role of "team member I wouldn't mind see making the ultimate sacrifice".

The entire Maerlin story line has carried my interest. Having Daniel denied at the last moment was very fitting of an Arthurian quest.

January?

Sorry Blake, in the last week I've learned the return of Season 10 won't be until MARCH 2007!  Maybe I should have waited to watch the first half when they replay it right before the second half....
