I got this email from my cousin. I am neither agreeing or disagreeing with the content - just posting it here for debate purposes. I know that it is NOT politically correct but yet it does have truth in it.

How to use Your IRS Rebate check;

As you may have heard, the Bush Administration said each of us would get
a rebate check to stimulate the economy.

If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money, will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs,
if we purchase a computer it will go to India,
if we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala,
if we purchase a good car it will go to Japan,
if we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan
and none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America . The only way to keep that
money here at home is to spend it at yard sales, since those are the
only businesses still in the US.

What do you think?

Since the majority of the checks will be sent out during the summer, and that is yard sale season, that might be the idea.

those tax checks are just a scam to think your getting something your not. what the heck are you going to do with 600 bucks.... then what after that. if everyone needs help then give them 50000 grand to do something with theirs lives.
I believe those stupid checks are to make everyone file and get cataloged by the government. The money isnt going to do us any good at that amount. something is going on and we are going to pay big for it. this country is going to the hole quick.
WTF is with food and gas prices.... huh
wtf is with this so called oil / congress investigation that leads no where....
wtf ,,, why arent people doing something about it.....
I really am not the doom kinda person because i believe in better living and people, but something bad is coming. i feel it.

there may be a revolution because things are way out of control now.

The point of the checks is as stated, to stimulate the economy. They are not designed to "help you out".

So if you don't want to do your part and pump yours into your local economy, I'll take it.

A basic knowledge of economics (or physics) would guide you to the understanding that when you place a dollar in someone's hand it is then in their hand. That they use it to pay for more products that are manufactured in other countries has nothing to do with the stimulus provided to the local economy by placing dollars into motion.

When I spend money it pays my local merchant's employees, they stay in business, and there are fewer people on unemployment. They spend their money on mortgages, utilities, food, and other services that keep the economy moving. In the global view, some percentage of every dollar you spend ends up in another country.

Is there someone out there that believes that these foreign economies are hoarding American dollars for some purpose?

Well, China and India seem to be doing pretty well on American dollars these days.

China has been upgrading their living standards (at least for some) and pumping a very large mass of money into building up their military and space programs, thanks in large part to all the money we are sending their way via the U.S trade deficit with China. We have been sending China our jobs and our money for some time now. One day soon that practice may very well come back to bite us big time (as if the biting had not already started with mass job losses and contaminated foods and lead tainted toys).

The "Stimulus Package" may indeed benefit the common folk (who qualified) and the local merchants to some extent, but the ones who will make the real killing are the companies with the vast majority of their products made cheaply (essentially by slave labor) in other countries and then shipped here for us to buy at what seems to be such a great deal... but since we Americans make so little of our own products anymore, economically, we are basically only getting the leftovers from someone else's dinner table while even more of our jobs go over sea to other shores.

Yeah, a global marketplace is great for big business and the slave labor markets in other countries, but it is hell on us common Americans who are fast heading towards third world status.

And here some in our government have the gall to criticize Mexico for how the wealthy there are doing so well while their masses suffer. At the rate the U.S. government and big business are degrading the average American's lifestyle there will be no need for a U.S./Mexico border before too much longer. Nor will their be a need to pay for slave labor, or child labor, in other counties because the Average American will be so desperate for jobs here that they will soon be forced to take jobs that only pay a few dollars a day with absolutely no benefits or labor laws to protect them... since workers rights, and civil rights, seem to be going by the wayside (just like our jobs have) at an ever increasing rate.

I agree that the problem in a global economy is that we don't have a global set of values.

The path to excluding ourselves from trade with other countries begins with each of us. I truly believed (past tense) that the tainted products from China would wake up more people. We point out when the Chinese attempt censorship by exclusion, that is simply not acknowledging an issue. Yet we fall prey to the same symptom with our free press.

How can it be that the overwhelming number of Americans, who cannot have not heard about tainted products, human rights abuses, and all of China's other issues, refuse to boycott China?

So many people claim to understand the issues, yet take no response outside of blaming others. We have callously referred to third world societies as being too stupid to pull themselves together as we hurtle towards joining them. That may be among the greater ironies of the world today
