I found this posted on two different boards.  It looks as though POSSIBLY "200" was the last harrah for the group

http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6364450.html?display=Breaking+News

People close to the production of Stargate SG-1 said Sci Fi Channel canceled the series on the eve of its 200th episode, which aired last Friday night, making the show the first cable scripted series to reach such a milestone.

The announcement came in sometime before cast, crew and executives gathered to celebrate the historic airing at a Saturday-evening bash held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, where the series is shot.

Spinoff series Stargate Atlantis -- which also airs Friday nights on Sci Fi and shares producers and production facilities with the older SG-1 -- was said to be unaffected by the cancellation. Atlantis is currently in its third season.

After a nine-year run -- five years on Showtime and now in its fifth year on NBC Universal's Sci Fi -- SG-1's ratings dropped approximately 30% this summer compared with the same time period last year, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

If true, I am sorry to hear this. Yes, the show has lost some luster, in my opinion, but I still watch it and would like SG-1 to stick around. I believe the show could be saved... it may need fresh writers and directors though.

That story wasn't posted by the folks charging "donations" to sign the petition, was it?

I had not checked the petition link. In my experience, petition sites tend to bring more SPAM. To be fair, I have not signed an online petition form in ages because of being burned so early on. I do not know for a fact that signing an online petition site today will still cause more SPAM to everyone who signs the petition.

A petition site that charges a donation fee AND increases your SPAM count… now that would be an insult.

No - they were two separate posts that I consolidated over here.

I did sign the petition and it told me that my sig had been excepted BEFORE it asked for any donation.  So the two aren't dependent on one another

Now that I've had some time to think about it, I finally sat down to put my feelins into words.  This is what I came up with.

In one way I HATE to see the show end... it really has been a huge part of my life in as far as my computer life,  making friends, going to conventions, fan fic writing.. ALL of it.  Although it all originated with the show, HOPEFULLY all of that will continue.

In another way, I haven't been trilled with the show in a long time... it seemed to have lost a lot of the SPARK of earlier seasons... Mostly in the imagination of the writers.  But I kept hoping, that as long as it was on, it could SOMEDAY return to its earlier glory for me.  So as it IS, I don't mind it so much being cancelled... for what it COULD have been it is a great loss.

Unfortunately, at least with the early announcement the writers SHOULD have time to END it PROPERLY and not leave us in MID CLIFFHANGER like other folks were left.  That at least is a small consolation of the "Lame Duck" feeling right now.

Still, this seems to be the season of "Miraculous Saves For SG1" so I stil have a hope for some kind of save - which I would LOVE to see.  MAYBE with this "threat" looming over everyon's head, it will knock them out of their complacency and give them the spark of desire  and creativity to make the show GREAT again.

Hey!  It could happen.  There is ALWAYS hope.

Peace & hugs to all!

I am reminded of the final words in Stargate's 200th episode, spoken by not T'eal'c.

"Isaac Asimov once said 'Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and phiolosphers of today. But the core of science fiction, it's essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all.'"

Yeah, I think I feel something like that myself… especially when this season is just starting to pick up.

And so it finally ends, at least in series

format. Farewell to all the Stargate characters.
