I do have to give George W. Bush credit for doing at least one positive thing in his reign of power. President Bush has done well by our space programs. This does surprise me.

I prefer the ethics of an honest democrat to those of a conservative republican, but at least those republicans are currently getting us one step closer to finding our way off this mud ball we call Earth.

Although I do prefer the humanity of an honest democrat, sometimes you have to understand that space is just as vital a goal for the long term survival of the human race as is the feeding and sheltering of today's poor.

I feel that it is vital that the human race get out there into the cosmos and spread our seeds of life as far and as wide as possible. I would like to see humanity get the chance to continue living, and evolving, in times long after our Earth and Sun have stopped being able to sustain human life. We can never achieve our space goals if no one is willing to spend the money and take the chances to learn how to get out there into the depths of space and survive.

So, if I have to say at least one good thing about a person I rant about in most every other way, then this is it for George W. Bush, he is doing a good job at getting us humans one step closer to our destiny as colonists of the cosmos.

Bravo Mac!   It'd be a sad day to see the space program disappear.  Ironically this seems to be more of a possibility the closer we get to a need to explore what else is out there.  I remember the day when the Apollo missions were exciting news but today it seems to be just an ordinary event.  And I guess in some ways that's good because it means we've progressed in our need to explore the galaxy.

Traveling through space is understandably a celebratory event for us sci-fi geeks but it's somehow reassuring when others develop the anticipation and excitement we have.  We see movies and TV shows set in the future where all of this is common place.  These portrayals give us hope for the future of the space program and promise for mankind to have the enthusiasm to explore what is currently the unknown.

Yes, thanks to the American to make us dream.

Still, about the US National Space Policy 2006, I have to say that this paper seems to be dangerous regarding the Space weaponization issue. In fact, many of the experts (and I agree with them) say that this document is the starting point of an open arms race in Space.

Here is an extract of the US National Space Policy : "The United States will oppose the development of new legal regimes or other restrictions that seek to prohibit or limit U.S. access to or use of space. Proposed arms control agreements or restrictions must not impair the rights of the United States to conduct research, development, testing, and operations or other activities in space for U.S. national interests."

And second, this policy is just destroying the most important principle of Space Law which is the freedom of exploration and use of Outer Space. The USA is ready to “deny, if necessary, adversaries the use of space capabilities hostile to U.S. national interests”.

Something to think about twice...

Well, you know Bush and his administration, they are never happy unless they are threatening someone.
