I decided to download and check out Internet Explorer 8 - Beta 1... and boy is it buggy... at least, I hope those are just bugs!

So far, I am not impressed at all. Not only is IE 8 built in the same lame shell as IE 7, and is just as ridged in design which severely limits your customization options, it also handles some of the web code differently... and to me, a less desirable way.

If this is how the final version of IE 8 is going to work I will have to rework all my pages, yet again, just to keep them from looking all screwed up in IE 8. The problem, if I do that, more than likely my pages will look all screwed up in every other browser out there, including IE 7.

Anyway, this is just the Beta 1 release so a lot of bugs are more than likely going to be fixed and other improvements made before the final version is released to the public.

Personally, I never even got to version 7.  I downloaded it and all it did was lock up every time I tried to go into it.  I had to do a system restore to get my "6" back and just stayed there ever since.

Of course my computer is "ancient" by today's standards so that could have a lot to do with it.

Despite its flaws and rigidity, I do like IE 7. I still have IE 6 on my backup internet computer though, and every time I use it I wonder why Microsoft took away all that ability to adjust and customize the browser to your own individual preferences, like you can with IE 6.

IE 6 is getting way outdated for the web though. Soon it will not work well at all with newer web sites. I guess a lot of people may be forced into buying new computers or living with mangled web pages within the next few years.

As for IE 8, I had to dump it. It is a work in progress and hopefully it will work better when the final version comes out. As it stands now, if that is how IE works when it comes out then I will probably have to switch to Firefox... which has been going in a more positive direction than IE has.

I gave up on Opera. It looked good but was not functional enough. The more I used it the more problems I discovered with Opera. Also, the last update I tried really messed up how it displays some of my web design (about as bad as IE 8 did but in different ways).

So, back to IE 7 now... but waiting for Firefox to get just a little bit better so I can dump IE altogether. Those boneheads at Microsoft are just going in the wrong direction to keep my high regard of IE.
