We just passed the eleventh anniversary of my sister's death from breast cancer. Some year, you would think I would get over it, wouldn't you?  But every year it seems to hit me again and I go through a blue funk.

If any of you even think I am half nice.... I am not even close to Debbie in that area.  As people would say "She is so sweet she can make your teeth hurt"  She could do it all. She was all state first baseman for Class A Slow Pitch softball for Pa.  I have NEVER seen anyone who could hit a ball farther than she could.  The team went to nationals twice - once to Midland Texas and once to Duluth Minnesota.

She would do anything for anyone... she got me the job at Hartford Steam Boiler... she was more grounded then I am so whatever hairbrained Idea I could come up with, she would make it work.... just find a practical idea to pull it off..... and she always gave me bail money when I went out with my friend Cathy.... hehehe

Debbie was buried on my birthday so since then it has turned into a day to honor and remember her.  She was and is my sister, my best friend, my Sunday School Co-Teacher,  Co-worker, car pool partner, partner in Mischief Night crime, confidant, and inspiration.

We buried my dad seven years ago last Sunday.  No NJ, you don’t get over it but it does get a little easier after a while.  My dad was much like your sister; he was well-loved, respected and honored by the community.  We honor their memory by thinking of them.  After a while the good times emerge, replacing the grief and we cherish the time we had with them.  We think about how lucky we were to have our lives touched by someone so special.

I don't know what to say nj. I'm glad that you honor her memory. That's all we can really ever do.

I am fortunate to still have all my siblings. Even though we do not see or talk much anymore, I would miss them all that much more if I knew I never could see or talk with them again.

I have lost others though, so I know what it is to miss and ache for those you can never see again... or at least not in this lifetime.

I feel for your loss NJ.

I am glad you have good memories of your sister and that she inspired you. My guess is that she inspired you more than you know and now you do the same for many others.
