Here are some pics from Germany.  The first one is of a house in the village of Hustedt, it is the village my great great grandparents and back to my 8th great grandparents lived.

This is a side view of the church that all my grandparents from the great great, back to the 8th great got married in.

This is a view of the front of the church.  I had a program that allowed me to combine these two pics into one.  It's amazing how well they blended together.  You really have to look to see the place they are connected.  I unfortunetly don't have the program anymore, and can't even remember the name of it anymore.

This is the Pepper Mill in Martfeld, I entered this and the Hustedt house into a photo contest.  The Pepper Mill took 2nd place, first time I had ever done that.  I have the ribbon on the picture.

I have TONS more pics from overseas, but they are on the 3.5 floppies and my laptop don't have that, so will have to download them onto my hubbys computer and then copy them to a disk, and put some of them on here too.

Nice pictures Nut, thanks for sharing them with us.

It is nice to have another person on the board interested in their genealogy.

I see you figured out how to post images. I noticed your post in the Pets and Critters forum but you managed to figure out how to post your cat pictures before I found time to help you with it. Good job.

Thanks!  And you are welcome.  Like I said have others I want to share, but that will take some doing getting them off the floppy.

I did get it figured out.  I decided to try how I post pics on the scifi board, and it worked here.

I'm very interested in my genealogy.  I got more so once we moved to Germany.  Looked all over for my last name, but even the German people I knew never heard of Schmeckpeper before, they'd laugh and say, yeah that is a good German name.  Finally through intensive searching on either genealogy.com or ancestory.com I ran into a 3rd cousin once removed, and then it all started to fall into place for me.

I did notice that your family moved to Cook County Illinois and then to Nebraska.  That is exactly what my family did too.  Where in Nebraska did they settle?

As for floppies, I have the same problem for one of my computers. My newest computer did not come with a floppy drive. It is true that I seldom use floppies anymore, but a floppy drive sure is handy when you need one.

As for my genealogy, my mother’s father was born in Johnstown, Nebraska. His father was from Iowa and his mother was born in Lynch, Nebraska (her father was abducted as a child from New York – his real family name was lost because of this).

It was my Crane side that came from Ohio, then to Illinois, Minnesota, and then to Washington State.

When you start adding all the family branches, several routes were taken and converged along the way before the first ones to reach Washington State.

Grandma Crane’s side of the family were the first ones of my line to reach the West coast. The first ones came to Oregon from North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Iowa back in 1851… in covered wagons. Either at the same time, or within the year, another branch went to Oregon from Ohio and Illinois. A little later, another branch of the family went to early Oregon from Pennsylvania via Kansas.

The first family to come to WA State came in 1899 from Ohio and West Virginia, although some of their family had preceded the ones of my line. Soon after, the Oregon and Washington lines mingled and one of their children met up with the Crane family, who had made it to Everett, WA in time for the 1930 US Census.

Then my mother’s side of the family started showing up. On my mother’s side of the family, my grandfather, and his family, came from Nebraska to WA in the early 1930s. This was about the same time my grandmother’s father came over from North Carolina (possibly running from the law – his distorted story even made it into a detective novel – yep, a skeleton in the family closet), and then my grandmother came over in 1936. She was ten then, and the last one of my line to make it here to WA. She came over to live with her father after her mother died, back in NC, in an auto accident.

Both my mother and father were born here in WA, although on opposite sides of the sate. They met up sometime in the early 1960s and ended up making me and then my siblings.

And there you have it, the very, very, condensed version of my families travels West.
