Well, as I am about to become employed, I must bid y'all adieu for at LEAST 4-6 weeks as I will be training far from home and I expect to not have time to have fun with you folks.

By the way, can any of you tell me anything about Minnesota this time of year? The weather, the odd laws (like is it a non-smoking state? How about the people? Are they in THIS century (Millennium?)?

Anyway, I will probably be in MN for about two weeks, then transfer to San Diego or San Jose for another 3-4 weeks. We shall see. But, I will be around for a couple of more days, so talk fast!!!  (c;}

Hey, congrats on the new job, Walt.

Bummer though, that you will not be around for a while.

As for Minnesota, well, the last time I was there was about 1968 so my impressions may be a bit out of date. It is possible that the people I knew there may have changed a bit since then. Heck, I don’t even remember their names.

What I remember is that the people in Minnesota were not all that different from anywhere else I have been to. Everyplace has its differences but overall everything will be much the same. I have found that no matter what state you go to you find good people and bad people. Sometimes you will end up at a place with an unfortunately high jerk ratio though, but the reverse is also true, sometimes you end up at a place with a lot of very good folks to spend some time with.

One thing different for you Walt, than for me, is that you will stand out more. Not just because you are taller than me. The good news is that racial bias may actually be less of a problem in a northern state... but I cannot guarantee that. As I stated above, sometimes you just end up in a bad town, no matter what state you are in.

Just hang in there and ride with the flow and avoid the jerks that you do come across. Though, my guess is that everything will be fine and you will have a good time.

Since you were in the military you already know much of what I just said, and know about the homesickness factor. Homesickness will probably be the hardest part of your stay in Minnesota.

What ME? Stand out? No not I, I blend in wherever I go!!! But I WILL get homesick (not like Francesca, she is already getting teary eyed and I haven't even officially been hired yet!!!). No, I won't have time to get homesick, I will be too busy to miss anything or anyone (well, not TOO much anyway).

I will be training to be a manager for a local Hometown Buffet. It is completely different from the restaurants I used to work, but the pay is better, the pace is faster, the bonuses greater (and paid out every 4 weeks!), which comes to approx $3k more a year,which is more overall than I asked).  So, after about 4 weeks I will come home and start work!!! Of course, I will only have two days off a week, but so WHAT!?!?!? I will have a JOB!!! Plus, I will be getting paid MORE THAN I AM MAKING RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
That and I will get to meet NEW people and work with NEW people!!! YIPPEE!!!!

Praise God and Praise all that He has given me!

NJ, what is REALLY funny, is when I was interviewing and BOTH managers (GM & District) told me the managers ALWAYS get two days off per week and normally only work 10 hour shifts, I was like, 'wow, AND I get vacations??? Are you KIDDING me?' It was because, I told them, the last two places I managed, the managers worked 5 days a week every OTHER week and the other was 6 days a week. And BOTH place managers worked 60+ hours a week PERIOD! This is going to be, in comparison, like a vacation or, at the very least, a PART TIME JOB!!! Now I know it won't be a 'cake walk', it's goiing to be 'hard' until I adjust, but in comparison to what I have been working, WOW, I am starting a vacation job! Oh, and by the way, did I tel you all that the TWO WEEK VACATION eligibility starts the DAY I start?!?!?!?!?! Not that I am gonna take it, but it is there!!!! WOW, I think I am in the 'perfect' job!!!!

I don't think I am 'allowed' to go anywhere but the training place and my hotel room (per my wife) ergo, I think it would be best that I try to follow the 'rules'! At least, though, she IS letting me bring my laptop!
